Project Overview
South 32 Worker Accommodation
This project involved the design and construction of high-end workers’ accommodation on Groote Eylandt,
tailored to withstand the tropical conditions and delivered within a tight timeframe. The client’s objective was to
provide comfortable and private living solutions within a small area, requiring detailed considerations for fire
resistance, acoustic control, and moisture egress. The scope of work included detailed design across structural,
mechanical, electrical, and acoustic engineering disciplines; manufacturing two laundry buildings with all fixed
FF&E, loose FF&E, and appliances; manufacturing linen stores; constructing verandas between all buildings;
packing the buildings for safe sea travel; and completing onsite works to finalize the manufacturing process.
During the construction phase of the project, Northern Transportables doubled resource capacity increasing our
local employment, local suppliers and subcontracting companies were engaged to facilitate all works.
Northern Transportables increased our design capacity during this project, and developed additional acoustic,
fire rating and vapour seal design skills, with these enhanced skills we have been able to provide a higher level
of design implementation to our projects and take our Transportable / Modular solutions to the next level.
